The Lyric Reddick Story & Interview

                                            Edited by Silver GS

Lyric Reddick started his love affair with music when he was only 8 years old. It didn’t take long before he would fall in love with brass instruments and percussions, eventually going on to master his skills following in the footsteps of greats the likes of

Funkadelic, Earth, Wind and Fire and more. Although Lyric started out as an instrumentalist, he developed a keen sense of poetry as a lyricist, from the very first time he set out to write a love poem on his school crush!

Poetry later blended in with beats, creating a truly unique sound. His flow is lively and dynamic, breaching through the heart and minds of fans with great melodies and thought-provoking verses that offer a great inisight in this artist’s mindset and vision:

                                                     Interview
1.Where are you from and how would you describe your city?

I lived in Escondido CA when I was younger due to some family issues but to be honest after thinking deeply I would claim Topeka Kansas thats where I really became a man. Description would be too small to be a city and too large to be a town…you get all the grit of a big city but in the proximity of a town…its kind of crazy…high crime rates, violence and then you go far north and have farmland.

2.Who has been your greatest support throughout your journey as an artist?

I would have to say it was my family…im a water can be as thick as blood type of person so when I say family it doesn’t specifically mean blood. For example, my first manager was my best friend Marvin Smith, my DJ is my cousin Dev (DJ wise guy) and my publicist is my cousin Dai. They all respectfully went to school for the things they do for me and my campaigns and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

3. At what age did you know you wanted to be an artist and how did you get started in the first place?

I knew from a young age that I wanted to entertain people. When I was younger I would have sworn I would become a stand up comedian! Always telling jokes and such which slipped into singing in church and etc. No matter what I did or accomplished in that realm I was always in some type of limelight and thats what sparked my interest…I have always known that somehow someway I was meant to bring entertainment and joy to peoples lives.

4.In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre and why?

Oh man…that is rough me personally I would have to say along the lines of LL Cool J because in my opinion he was one of the pioneers of what some would call “RnB rap” with the Croonin path. He opened the way for many other greats I believe Chris Brown kind of falls into that category and also Drake who brought it back and ran with it to new limits….so currently I would have to say Drake is holding the torch…for now.

5.So what are your current thoughts on the music industry?

The industry itself is in the midst of a shift and I’m ready for it. Since the age of social media the industry has been more about who you know and what you show than it has been about your talent and ability. NOW I’m not saying there has been NO talented people to come across as of late but IG followers and engagement will far outweigh a good timeless song and I feel like its slowly shifting.

6.How do you separate yourself from other artists?

It’s not hard to separate when I am being unapologetically myself. I make have a style that is comparable or even gain listeners for putting me into some form of box but at the end of the day there is only 1 Lyric Reddick and only I can speak on and tell my experiences from my perspective.

7. How do you stay motivated and continue your music as an artist?

Purpose, there has never been something I was so sure of! Yea I could have cut corners and took the easy way but I didn’t want to, I once said “I wanna prove that I could make it no change so when they asked me how I did it? I was doing my thang”

8.What aspect of the music-making process excites you most and what aspect discourages you the most?

What excites me is probably the start to bottom of a song, I hear the track and I think to myself “where does this put me…where do I feel like I am?” Then I think of a time I was either at that point or in close proximity and speak from my heart on everything
The most discouraging would have to be marketing…I can not market worth a damn.

9. What was your inspiration behind your song " HomeTown?"

It was literally an ode to myself and Topeka KS. A lot of lines in that song touched my heart “I aint no saint a frequent sinner, the devil knows me personally and he calls me out for dinner” is me stating the obvious…I was not perfect and it took a lot of work to overcome who I thought I HAD to be…I never did dirt for myself I was in the streets for my family and I took full accountability for whatever happened at that time. “Lead them to the promised lands."

10.if you can describe your fans in one word what would it be and why?

Amazing- My fans have stuck by me through the most! From pro football to quitting music and in between..I took a 2 year hiatus from music and my first single back did the best of any single I had ever created and it was all up from there! And the not only keep me humble the keep me honest…they will call me on my shit and also if my posts seem a bit off they even check on me….I try to keep an open communication between myself and my fans if I can read your message and respond I definitely will do so and they know that. I love y’all so much I hate calling y’all fans lol

11.who would you like to work with in the future?

Believe it or not Raphael Saadiq…I have looked up to him for so long man just to have something that he has touched in my catalog I would be able to die happy! Raphael if you see this we will be meeting soon!

12. What advice would you give to upcoming artists who are trying to pursue their dreams?

DON’T FOLLOW THE WAVE the waves change they go up and down….thats why they are called waves…just be yourself if its meant to happen it will if it isn’t meant then it won’t but one thing you can never ignore is the amount of lives you touched either way.

13. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Wife kid…picket fence..writing movie scores on the side, of courses I will still be releasing music and hopefully touring or polishing my EGOT (shout out to Amarii Davu) but yea when its all said and done I would like to have a normal life and family that is sustained by my music.

14. What Albums, latest releases or singles are available to your fans and where can they be found?

I am currently working on my debut EP entitled “Becoming” which kind of gives a more intimate look into who I am as a person and what it took to get there…Its pretty personal. But as far as recent singles my most recent is entitled “Little Friend” which is also on the EP and it is all about being a sidepiece to a woman that I care so deeply about..on the reverse there is a song on the EP called “put it down” which is about me seeing a woman that I am not interested in BECAUSE I am in love with the girl from little friend. Turnabout right?
